Dear Parishioners,

I am a huge fan of podcasts. I find them to be a very handy source of information and entertainment when I’m driving or walking. They are easy to download and listen to on my phone and it’s a good use of time when I would otherwise just be waiting. Also, we are very fortunate to be living in a time where there are so many great Catholic podcasts. So, in this article, I would like to list some of my favorite current Catholic podcasts. You can easily find these on the internet with a web browser or a podcasting app.

  • Counsel of Trent by Catholic Answers This is the best apologetics podcast out there defending the Catholic faith. Trent Horn is an excellent teacher and debater. He is the model of charity and clarity in all his dialogs and debates. So, I think everyone can learn a lot tuning in to his podcast.
  • Pints with Aquinas by Matt Fradd This is a Catholic talk show podcast. Originally, it was about teachings of Thomas Aquinas. But the format has shifted to Matt Fradd interviewing Catholic people and they tell their stories and comment on current issues. Normally, I can’t stand things that don’t get to the point. But, every episode has taught me something from a point of view I never expected.
  • The Catechism in a Year by Fr. Mike Schmitz (Ascension Press) Following his very popular Bible in a Year Podcast (also worth listening to if you have not), Fr. Mike Schmitz is reading and reflecting on the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Reading through the Catechism can be rough. But listening to someone else read it is actually very easy. And by getting through the whole Catechism and being attentive, you will find all sorts of nuggets of truth you never knew about the faith.
  • The Exorcist Files by IHeartPodcasts This podcast is about case files of demonic infestation and possession, dramatized for radio and commented on by an Exorcist. I only heard about this Podcast a month ago and I have listened to about half of the episodes they have produced. I was at first very skeptical that they would get the faith right because it does not come from a Catholic media outlet. But so far, the commentary from the Exorcist priest has been spot-on and it is a good reminder of evil forces in the world.

So, I hope everyone is having a great summer. Stay cool and stay educated.

God bless!

Fr. Carter
