Dear Parishioners,

Many people desire to go to confession right before Christmas and this is a holy and good request. So, this Wednesday December 20th, I am offering sacramental confessions in Church from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm. I’ll be in the confessional in the chapel. Feel free to come and offer your sins to God.

In order to help you make a good confession, here is a brief examination of conscience for you. More in-depth examinations can be found online.

  • Have I made something more important in my life than God?
  • Have I received communion unworthily?
  • Have I prayed daily?
  • Have I participated in superstitious practices?
  • Have I used the name of God in an unworthy manner?
  • Have I disparaged God, the Church or other holy things or people?
  • Have I purposely missed Mass on Sunday or a Holy Day of Obligation?
  • Have I acted irreverently in Church? (Like leaving Mass early or being a distraction to others in prayer?)
  • Have I treated my family well, and parents with all due respect?
  • Have I killed anyone? (Including euthanasia)
  • Have I purposefully harmed anyone?
  • Have I participated in the sin of abortion?
  • Have I been quarrelsome or vengeful?
  • Have I committed any of the sexual sins? (Including adultery, masturbation and pornography)
  • Do I purposefully dress myself in a provocative manner?
  • Have I placed myself in the near occasion of sin?
  • Have I used artificial contraception for the purpose of
    not having children?
  • Have I stolen anything?
  • Have I been generous to the Church and the poor in so far as I am able?
  • Have I lied to anyone?
  • Have I gossiped, disparaged or mocked anyone?
  • Have I been envious of others either for their relationships, for what they have, or the gifts God gave them?
  • Have I been gluttonous or intemperate?
  • Do I love God above all things and seek His glory
    above my own?

Remember, we are all sinners who are in need of the mercy of God. I pray that you all may receive it and those who really need to come to confession do so. As Pope Francis says, “Be courageous. Go to confession.”

God bless!

Fr. Carter
