Dear Parishioners,
Lent is when we prepare ourselves for Easter with penance, prayer and good works. In other words, this is a time to remove those things in our lives that keep us from loving God. In order to help you to do this, I want to talk to you about the various events we are having to help during this holy season.
* Stations of Cross will be prayed every Friday at 6 pm in Church. This devotion meditates on our Lord’s passion and death and reminds us to turn away from our own sin.
* Sacred Music Talk Christa Dalmazio will be continuing her series of talks on March 14th at 5 pm in the Church. These talks are well worth attending if you have any interest in learning about music in Church. Christa is an expert in sacred music and currently working on her doctorate.
* Additional time for the Sacrament of Reconciliation will be offered March 26th at 6 pm (until 7pm) in the chapel during our normal Thursday Adoration time. Confessions are also offered on Saturdays at 2:30 pm (until 3:30pm) and also by appointment.
* A Seven Last Words service will be held Tuesday March 31st at 6 pm. This service combines preaching with music to reflect on the seven last words of Jesus on the Cross. I have recruited several other priests to help with this service and Christa will be providing music. This is the first time we are trying this event. So, I hope people will be willing to attend.
* Our new Bible Study is about the book of Revelation and it begins this week on February 25th. Kim DiBiase is speaking at all the Masses about it. It will continue past Lent. But these studies have been really enriching for myself and everyone who attends them. So, if you want to learn more about Sacred Scripture, it’s worth trying out.
I hope we all have a Holy Lent. God bless!
Fr. Carter
