Dear Parishioners,

Thank you so very much to everyone who pledged additional funds in the Increased Giving Campaign. According to the Cathedral Corporation, about 45% of active families in the parish have responded (which is about the average) with the average increase being about $9 (which is slightly above average). If we keep this up, we are well on our way of meeting the bench mark of a 20% increase. After we pay the Cathedral Corporation for helping us with the campaign, this should translate to over $100,000 more in the collections throughout the year which will greatly help our final budget and shield against possible expenses in the future. (The roof of the Church and the parking lot improvements are of most concern right now.)

I would also like to thank everyone for being so understanding. When it comes to any campaign to raise money, people can get very sensitive and react negatively. But, so far, everyone seems to understand why this needs to be done and have cooperated. There are even people who have apologized to me personally because they cannot give more at this time. If you are really not able to give, that is fine and there is really no need to apologize. The appeal was to encourage people to given within their means not to place undue hardship on anyone who really cannot afford it. Prayers and volunteering are also greatly appreciated, not just money.

On a completely separate note, we are moving forward with the assistance rails to help people walk up and down the steps at the altar. We just gathered the last quote and are ready to make a decision. So, please pray we make the right one. I can tell that this is a very important improvement for many in the parish and even though it is taking a while, it will be done.

Lastly, we decided when and where we will hold our Lenten Penance Services. On Wednesday, March 21 st , we will have a 3:30 pm Penance Service at St. Rose in Belmar, and a 7 pm Penance Service here at Holy Innocents Church. Please make time to experience the mercy of our Lord at one of these services, or at our normal Saturday confessions this Lent. If you see me after any Mass, I’m always willing to hear confessions as well.

God bless!

Fr. Carter
