Dear Parishioners,

Halloween is just around the corner and this is the time of year that people tend to get most interested in the occult and supernatural. As Catholics, we have a special attachment to these realities since we believe in real evil, and know that exorcisms are a reality. But unfortunately, people have all kinds of misconceptions about the practice and may not even understand what demons are. So, I would like to make the following offerings for your own education and for the education of others. First, I highly recommend listening to an interview with an exorcist named Carlos Martins. He recently contributed to the “Exorcist Files” podcast for iHeart Radio. He also recently had an interview with Matt Fradd on the podcast Pints with Aquinas. It is titled, “Real Life Exorcist Shares His Story w/ Fr Carlos Martins.” And it can be found on Youtube or wherever you listen to podcasts. Secondly, I would like to recommend another podcast about how certain people can overly attribute demonic activity and the problems that arise from it. On the podcast Jimmy Akin’s Mysterious World, Akin (who is a Catholic Answers apologist) talks about this topic in the episode titled, “It’s Always Demons? (Testing the Spirits)” It can be found on the SPQN website. Thirdly, this has nothing to do with demons. But, Jeff Carter has been working very hard preparing the CARE Classes for all of your general education about the faith. He is having another class tomorrow (October 30) in the Spiritual Center at 7:30pm. So, if you want to learn more about the faith with others, feel free to come to that. On a final note, thank you to everyone who was able to help plan for and facilitate Immaculee’s Retreat last week. So much effort went into this and the fruits of this effort are apparent. A number of people approached me saying how much they got out of the retreat. Good things are happening in our parish and we thank God for it.

God bless!

Fr. Carter

P.S. Don’t forget Nov 1st is All Saints Day and Holy Day of Obligation!
