Dear Parishioners,
One of the things I really enjoy about the priesthood is having the freedom to learn about the faith and to share it with others. I often do this at Mass in the homily, and at various talks I give throughout the year. But, I especially enjoy having a discussion about these topics because I find them to be the most useful for learning the faith. I have two different groups that meet regularly to do this: the Bible Study (which meets on Mondays at 5:30 pm) and the Reading Group (which meets Thursdays at 7 pm).
Reading Group is a semi-weekly book club dedicated to reading books that promote the Catholic Faith. It will be based around personal reflection on the text and group discussion. Before the meeting, the particular passage should be read and everyone should highlight the passages they enjoyed or write down their reflections. We can then share our thoughts in the meeting.
If this sounds like something you would like to be involved in, I have good news for you: we are beginning a new book soon! We are going to read together Trent Horn’s Why We’re Catholic: Our Reasons for Hope, Faith and Love starting Thursday January 16th. It is a great little book that explains so much in our faith. The chapters begin with questions about Truth and Science, why we believe God exists, then it gets into more doctrinal matters and more aspects of the faith that are controversial in our modern society. If you have ever been challenged by someone who has a beef with what the Church teaches or if you want to get to know your faith better in a discussion setting, this is the book for you. Trent Horn has a real gift in explaining the faith and he is worth reading even outside this discussion group.

God bless!
