Dear Parishioners,
Next weekend (June 10th & 11th), at all Masses, Rev. Raju Pilla will be speaking about the works and the needs of the Latin Archdiocese of Trivandrum in India.
Trivandrum has about 270,000 Catholics. 90% of these people belong to fishing communities, the majority of whom depend on fishing for their livelihood. 10% are farm workers who are recent converts. Unemployment and poverty are rampant in these communities.
The Archdiocese depends on outside contributions to support its clergy, seminarians, catechists, and their humanitarian projects. Some of these include: homes for the orphans, the aged, and destitute, which provide food, shelter, health care, and education.
In 2021, the Cyclone āTauktaeā left hundreds of families homeless. Each year, monsoon sea-erosion destroys several homes of fishing families who live near the sea. And as you can imagine, the Archdiocese has yet to recover from the crippling effects of financial devastation caused by the pandemic lockdowns.
We humbly request that you be as generous as your means allow in the second collection next weekend. Your sacrifice for the Mission Appeal Cooperative Plan with the Archdiocese of Trivandrum, India is deeply appreciated, and I thank you in advance.
God bless!
Fr. Carter
