Dear Parishioners,
For the last two years, I have had Latin Masses celebrating the Feast of the Holy Innocents on December 28th. As you may know, I have a strong devotion to the Traditional Latin Mass. I really love the reverence inherent in it and how it gives glory to God. This year, it will be on a Saturday, so we can have the Mass at 10 am, which should be more convenient for many people. I have managed each year in a relatively short period of time to pull together each of these Masses and they were pretty well attended. This year I would like to try something different: actually plan ahead and invite people to help.
So, if anyone would like to help out, please let me know! We could use people to usher and to help set up a meal after the Mass. Christa Dalmazio, our Music Director is planning to start a children’s choir to sing some of the parts of the Mass. (More on that later.) So, let me know if you think you can help (toddcarterpriest@gmail.com). I do recognize that December 28th is right after Christmas, but I hope that we can take the time to praise God for the patrons of our church community.
I think the Holy Innocents are too often forgotten even in this church. Sometimes I notice people spell our church’s name as “Holy Innocence” showing that they don’t even know that the Holy Innocents were actual people. They were the first martyrs for Christ in Bethlehem. As martyrs, they bear witness to the hatred Herod had for Christ which is reflective of all people who purposefully choose a sinful life over following Our Lord. So much can be said about that event and we should all have a certain devotion to them for giving their young lives, that we may know and love our Lord.
Would you like to see a Latin Mass? We’re going to have another Sung Mass on October 2nd at 6 pm for the Feast of the Guardian Angels. Our Music Director Christa Dalmazio will be singing. Everyone is invited. The chants of the Mass are absolutely gorgeous and should be experienced by all Catholics. Some people might be concerned that they won’t be able to understand what’s going on and why some of the rituals are different. But, I have hand-outs to help with those things. Besides, the Mass is still the Mass and the main parts of it are the same no matter the form used.
God bless!
Father Carter
