Dear Parishioners,
I find that the hardest times to practice the faith are either when we are extremely busy or when we have a break. When we are really busy, we can allow everything in the world to distract us and tell ourselves we will get to it later. When we are on a break, we are usually so exhausted or worn out that we do not want to do anything else. Either way, our faith is left aside.
I also find that this time of year, at the beginning of Fall, we have a bit of a turning point. Summer, with all the vacation time is over. And we are setting the agenda and schedule for the whole rest of the year. So, this is the perfect time to make sure the faith is part of your plan for the rest of your year.
You can very easily write in your schedule whichever Mass you normally attend, or you could set a specific Saturday a month to come to confession. You could set a specific time of day to pray for a few moments with your family. You could dedicate yourself to come to our Bible Study, CA.R.E. class or any of the other numerous educational opportunities provided to learn about the faith. You could even commit yourself to volunteer to serve the poor. Following your faith could look very different depending on what you need to work on.
When we get into the business of the year, we can become so distracted and think missing Mass and not praying regularly isn’t a big deal. Yet, there is nothing more important than following Christ because it is only through Him that we can have hope for eternal life. If you put your faith in Christ first and all other things as secondary, it becomes much easier to do what is right. And it is even more important if you have a family to put your faith first because you need to be a good example to your children.
Every moment is a moment in which we can love the Lord. I pray none of you will let this precious time God has given be wasted, but be used to give Him glory.
God bless!
